  • PhD in Engineering for Natural and Built Environment at the Politecnico di Torino.
    Thesis: Modelling human-made wetlands for a sustainable development. Advisors: Prof. Luca Ridolfi, Prof. Roberto Revelli, and Res. Fulvio Boano.

Research interests:

Water and agriculture

My research interests in this topic are focused on the modeling of physico-biological-chemical processes developed in paddy soils. More in details, I dealt with:
  • Study of the state of the art of published mathematical models for methane (CH4 - greenhouse gas) emissions from paddy fields
  • Modeling of water, nutrients, and heat transport in paddy soils
  • Modeling of paddy soil biogeochemistry
  • Modeling of plant-mediated gas exchange between soil and atmosphere through rice roots.
  • Study of the effects of water and heat transport fluxes on the methane (CH4 - greenhouse gas) emissions from paddy soils.
  • Modeling of the microbial fuel cell (MFC) effect on CH4 emissions from paddy soils.

Water quality

 

In this topic, I focus on the study of constructed wetland (CW) for wastewater treatment via a process-based modeling approach. More in details, I dealt with:

  • test the capability of HYDRUS-CWM1 in modeling the respose of horizontal subsurface flow (HSSF) CW to unsteady organic loads;
  • study the behaviour of HSSF to sudden and stochastic organic loads.
